I recently had the blessing to hike to 12,000 feet with my 30-year old son in the Rocky Mountains. When on an extended hike every pound matters especially when you are neither of the thinnest nor the most athletic frame.  The higher and the farther you trek makes the quality of the food you carry increasingly important. A cookie baked in a monastery brought out the very best in our journey. The label humbly declares :

 

What a contrast to the bulk of our backpacking food preserved with salts and chemicals that take away from the freshness and pure spirituality of the experience of the mountains. We fueled our bodies and our spirits with prayed over all natural cookies! I crudely describe the taste as a delightful cross between a fruit cake and an oatmeal raisin cookie.  Convenient high energy “gorp” going in, high fiber going out (another blessing at high altitude).   Trite but true, this “heavenly” cookie enhanced the backpacking experience of myself and my son in ways impossible to describe.
